It may not feel like it just yet, but summer is coming!! Our kids sharing watermelon.. don’t mind the donkey in the bottom left! haha

Nothing like a hot summer day enjoying a slice of watermelon and spitting out seeds! Yes, the watermelon starts we have available will produce fruit that has seeds. We provide heirloom varieties and prefer the taste of a seeded watermelon.. besides, what fun is it if you cannot spit out the seeds?!?

Watermelons have a fun history!

They are believed to have originated around 5000 years ago in the Kalahari Desert of Africa! After they were discovered, they became quite popular. They were considered a prized fruit and there are hieroglyphics on the walls in Egypt telling stories of their harvest. Watermelons were even buried in the tombs of kings! During the Civil War, the Confederate Army boiled watermelon to make molasses for cooking. So interesting!

We offer two heirloom varieties:

Crimson Sweet:

One of the most popular watermelons out there! Crimson Sweet has a tough, medium green rind with dark-green stripes. Fruit are nearly round with an average weight of 24 lbs. Flesh is firm, fine textured, and bright red with high sugar content and relatively few small dark brown mottled seeds. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies, and/or birds.

Charleston Grey:

Charleston Grey produces fruits that are large, light greenish gray, 28-35 lbs., cylindrical-shaped, 22″ long by 10″ across. Slice them open to find juicy, crisp, firm red flesh dripping with heavy watermelon flavor.
